Embracing the rich heritage of acoustic folk music

The Bert Jansch Foundation was established on 3 November 2013 – on what would have been Bert’s 70th birthday. So much love and goodwill has been flowing to Loren and Bert, from around the world since their untimely deaths in 2011, that it was felt the time was right to establish an entity that could capture that energy and be a focus for charitable activity to help the next generation of acoustic musicians.

Creating and fostering early career and education opportunities

The Foundation embraces the rich heritage of acoustic folk music and celebrates its creativity. It supports young players by providing early career and educational opportunities. Many of Bert’s colleagues and friends have already become Patrons and Associates of the Foundation and offered activities to help fund, develop and support the Foundation’s charitable projects in their own areas of influence.

Partnering with musical institutions that deal with young players

The Foundation works in partnership with significant musical institutions, in the first instance Edinburgh Napier University Popular Music courses; Renbourn Guitar Workshops and The English Folk Dance & Song Society.
