The Foundation was delighted to be asked by Celtic Connections to stage a show celebrating the music and life of Bert Jansch and his Scottish roots. The 31 January concert at the Old Fruitmarket sold out within days being announced in October. We are delighted that we are able to hold a second show the following night at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. The full line up is due to include Jacqui McShee playing with Mike Piggott, Robert Plant and the Sensational Space Shifters, Graham Coxon, Martin Simpson, Karine Polwart, Ryley Walker and Ben Watt and Bernard Butler.
Tickets for 1 February 2016 and latest details are available on the Celtic Connections website. Both shows are aid of the Bert Jansch Foundation.
Jansch himself credited Archie Fisher (appearing 31 January 2016 only), one of Scotland’s best-loved folk veterans, with giving him blues guitar lessons at Edinburgh’s Howff folk club in the early 1960s, before Jansch found fame with Pentangle, whose lead singer Jacqui McShee also features here. Ex-Led Zep rock god Robert Plant, well-known for his blues and folk proclivities, calls his debt to Jansch “enormous and longstanding”, while former Suede guitarist Bernard Butler, a latter-day champion of Jansch’s work, is now passing the torch to myriad younger admirers, such as Ryley Walker.
