Cassandra Layton
for rehearsal space to perfect live performance and choreography
Cassandra initially trained as a performer on the BA Acting course at RADA although music has been her deeply passionate hobby since her teens. Since graduating, she has performed all over the world at venues including the Barbican, the Young Vic, the Royal Court and the Hollywood Bowl. In the last few years she has pursued combining music and acting, creating work to tell stories in both worlds at once, instead of alternating between the two. “This felt like the truest expression of myself and the art I wanted to make.” While studying on the MMus in Popular Music at Goldsmiths, she has been honing skills as a music producer and composer and working towards creating a new language of live performance.
Her final degree show, Toulip Wonder, which this grant supports, centres around Cassandra’s work as a saxophonist. The saxophone is the mouthpiece for the character and her core mode of expression. The live show also incorporates dance, theatre and animation in order to help tell its particular story.
