Goldsmiths, University of London for ‘Private composition tuition with Laurence Crane’

I am a British-American composer and guitarist living in London studying at Goldsmiths College, current president of the Goldsmiths Composers Collective and a performer with the Contemporary Music Ensemble, Chamber Choir, and various other rotating ensembles within the college. Alongside this I am a guitar tutor and perform regularly in and outside of London with a number of bands and ensembles, and work with outreach programmes within the department such as the Alchemy weekend music clubs.

Studying primarily as a composer, I have begun to feel that I am developing a clear voice through my recent compositions and am looking to focus in on these developments through private study. I have always been a fan of Laurence Crane’s music and feel that it has much in common with my own; following preliminary discussions we have arranged a series of lessons through the remainder of the year, which this award will be invaluable in enabling.

I am writing to express my thanks for having been selected as one of the recipients of the Bert Jansch Foundation award this year – in such a strong department this can’t have been an easy choice! The award will be a huge help in the pursuit of the noted private study, and I’m very grateful.
