Bert Inspired 2017 – a tribute to Bert Jansch
Monday 21 August 2017, The Queens Hall, Edinburgh

The Foundation is delighted to present Bert Inspired 2017 at Edinburgh Festival Fringe, which Bert always used to play. It also marks the publication day of Bert Transcribed: the Bert Jansch Songbook which features 24 new transcriptions of Bert’s songs and notes on his innovative techniques, by an expert team of guitarists and transcribers assembled by the Foundation.

Bert Inspired 2017 will feature music that shaped Bert and songs he gifted us, performed by musicians who worked with Bert over his long career: Jacqui McShee of Pentangle, Steve Tilston, Bernard Butler, and not least Bert’s original guitar teacher, Archie Fisher. It also features artists who have been touched by Bert’s music: Ben Watt, Karine Polwart and Alasdair Roberts, who says “It’s kind of impossible to be a Scottish guitarist and singer nowadays without confronting and exploring the work of the great Bert Jansch – the achievements he made and the precedents he set so early on are like a challenge to the rest of us, a gauntlet thrown down.”

Monday 21 August 2017. Doors 19:30, show 20:00
The Queens Hall, 85-89 Clerk Street, Edinburgh EH8 9JG

Tickets: £25 (restricted view £20) + booking fee
from The Queens Hall and from The Edinburgh Fringe box office

Bert Inspired 2017 follows sold-out tributes to Bert in London in 2013 (broadcast on BBC4), and at Celtic Connections in 2016. “The ambiguity in the simple two-word title for these concerts staged by the Bert Jansch Foundation is entirely deliberate. Of course the artists who make up the varied bill acknowledge the influence of Jansch on their own music, but equally they explore the music that he drew upon.” – The Herald, 2016 ★★★★
